Every day, we see generosity making a difference in Howard County.
Whether it’s helping a family through a difficult time, supporting a nonprofit’s mission, creating educational opportunities, or investing in community solutions, philanthropy continues to strengthen the place we call home.
Here at the Community Foundation, we spend a great deal of time listening to donors, nonprofit partners, community leaders, and residents. Those conversations help us better understand both the opportunities and challenges facing our community and how philanthropy can help address them.
Increasingly, we’re talking with donors about how they can make the greatest impact today while also supporting long-term solutions for the future. This means responding thoughtfully to current needs while investing in the long-term health and vitality of our community. As you think about your philanthropic goals, here are a few ideas to consider.
Think Broadly About Your Philanthropy
Many donors use the Community Foundation as a hub for their giving. Whether through a donor-advised fund, a scholarship fund, a legacy gift, or support for a specific area of interest, a thoughtful giving strategy can help maximize both impact and flexibility. CFHC can help identify and connect you to the causes you care about. We provide strategic guidance and steward your philanthropic investments.
Embrace Flexibility
Our nonprofit partners consistently tell us that flexible funding is among the most valuable forms of support. While program-specific gifts are important, unrestricted funding allows organizations to respond to changing needs, strengthen operations, and serve the community where resources are needed most.
Stay Connected to Community Needs
Meeting the moment doesn’t mean changing your priorities. It means staying informed and remaining open to opportunities where your philanthropy can make a meaningful difference.
One example is the Fund for Howard County, which supports CFHC’s annual Community Grants Program. Through this fund, community volunteers help direct resources to local nonprofit organizations addressing both essential needs and quality-of-life opportunities throughout Howard County. Whether you give $25, $250, or $2,500 to the Fund for Howard County, your important contribution is pooled with additional funds to make a bigger collective impact.
We Are Here to Help
At CFHC, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Because we work closely with donors, nonprofits, businesses, and community leaders, we are uniquely positioned to help identify opportunities for impact.
Whether you’re supporting a favorite nonprofit, establishing a fund, creating a family giving plan, or exploring ways to respond to emerging community needs, we’re here to help.
We also invite you to join us throughout the year for educational and community events designed to help donors, professional advisors, nonprofit leaders, and community members learn, connect, and engage. One upcoming opportunity is our givinglab. Lunch & Learn Series on June 17, “Unlock the Power of Your IRA – Give Strategically, Save Significantly,” where we’ll explore how Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) can help maximize both your philanthropy and your tax savings while supporting the causes you care about most. Learn more here.
We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you, learn more about your philanthropic goals, and explore how the Community Foundation can help connect your generosity with the causes and organizations that matter most to you.
Please feel free to reach out to me directly at dflynn@cfhoco.org. I always enjoy meeting members of our community, hearing what matters most to them, and helping connect their generosity with meaningful opportunities for impact.
Together, we can connect generosity with purpose and continue building a stronger Howard County for generations to come.
