The Power of Partnership in Action: Song’s Cultural Connections Foundation Fund
Here at the Community Foundation of Howard County, we often talk about impact.
Not just as a result, but as a process – how generosity moves from intention to action, and from action to meaningful change in our community.
This week’s Korean Community Support grant awards, made possible through the thoughtful philanthropy of donor Sue Song, are a powerful example of that in motion.
Through a series of grants totaling $18,000, four nonprofit organizations received support for work that strengthens cultural connection, expands access, and supports the well-being of individuals and families across our region:
- Howard County Library System (EDIB Department): $5,000
Providing free and equitable access to information and lifelong learning, with a focus on ensuring all community members feel welcomed, represented, and empowered. - Korean Culture and Art of Maryland, Inc.: $5,000
Preserving and sharing Korean arts and cultural traditions through performances, exhibitions, and educational programs that deepen understanding and appreciation. - Korean Association for Asian Classic Studies, Inc.: $3,000
Advancing the study and preservation of classical Asian texts and traditions, connecting ancient wisdom with modern community life. - The Family Counseling Center of Greater Washington: $5,000
Providing compassionate, affordable mental health counseling and support services to individuals and families, with a focus on those who are underserved.
These investments reflect what smart, local giving can do when it is grounded in understanding and partnership. What makes this kind of giving especially impactful is not just the funding. It is the way it happens.
We work closely with donors like Sue Song to align their philanthropic goals with real community needs. We partner with nonprofits to understand their work and provide flexible, mission-aligned support. We also connect donors, nonprofit leaders, and community members so ideas and resources can come together in meaningful ways.
As Melissa Curtin, President & CEO, shared during the presentation, when resources and passion align, communities grow stronger. And when donors and nonprofits work in partnership, every dollar can go further, creating impact that is both immediate and lasting.
We are grateful to Sue for her continued partnership and vision, and to the nonprofit partners who bring this work to life every day. Together, we are strengthening cultural connections, expanding opportunities, and building a more connected Howard County, one thoughtful investment at a time.
