This August, “Maryland Mark” is hitting the open road on his BMW R1300 GS motorcycle for the Ride for Memory, an epic adventure to touch all 48 continental states. It’s a journey that blends personal tribute, public awareness, and the thrill of the open road.
A Journey of Love and Legacy
Mark’s love for riding came from his dad, a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast known throughout central Maryland for his off-road adventures well into his seventies, who later developed cognitive impairment. After serving as his father’s primary caregiver for five years until his passing in 2017, Mark is dedicated to honoring him, supporting his fellow caregivers, and promoting motorcycle safety.

The Ride for Memory Fund
To make every mile count, Mark established the Ride for Memory Fund at the Community Foundation of Howard County (CFHC). This donor-advised fund supports:
- Critical research and care programs for cognitive decline
- Initiatives that promote safe, responsible riding
A New Chapter
This ride also celebrates Mark’s retirement after a successful 45-year career as a wealth manager and accountant. On August 3—just two days after retiring—he will set off from central Maryland on a “Motorcycle Mystery Tour” with no rigid itinerary, just a goal to share stories, raise awareness, and explore the country.

“This ride is for my dad—and for everyone who’s faced memory loss or watched someone they love fade away. It’s also for every rider who knows that the road can heal, teach, and connect us.”
