Howard County Community Relief Fund

In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we are soliciting donations for the Howard County Community Relief fund.

Many offices, like ours, are implementing telecommuting and other social distancing protocols. Other businesses such as restaurants and entertainment venues have now been ordered to close.

What happens to the small independent contractors, cleaning crews, prep cooks, wait staff, merchandise stockers and ticket takers at event venues who can’t telecommute and don’t get paid if they don’t work? There are Congressional discussions about providing sick leave to many, but not to all. For those not covered, what about missed rent payments, utility bills, and the need for food?

CFHoCo has been in touch with several nonprofit service providers in Howard County and it is already clear that financial support will be needed.

As we progress through this health care emergency, we’ll collaborate with other funders and will develop a fair and well-managed process to support the nonprofit sector which delivers frontline services to the community. As our community did through the 2016 and 2018 Ellicott City flood relief efforts, you can make donations to the Community Foundation of Howard County’s “Howard County Community Relief Fund.” Click here to donate.
