2019 Program Changes
The Foundation will not be running the Community Grant application process for 2019.
Through the Community Grant program, funding is provided once a year to support programs and services that transform and enrich the lives of Howard County residents. CFHoCo seeks to collaborate with nonprofits administering human service programs; focusing on educational success and opportunities; providing arts and culture experiences; advocating for a healthy lifestyle and promoting the enjoyment and preservation of our environment.
The Community Grant Program provides funding in two categories:
Operational Grants provide support for the day-to-day costs of running a nonprofit organization. These grants provide unrestricted income to help an organization carry out its goals without imposing the requirement to develop activities directly attributable to the grant.
Project Grants are given to support a specific set of activities, with a beginning and an end, explicit objectives and a predetermined cost. Project grant funds are restricted and must be used for the specified project.
Based on the availability of funds, the foundation may provide grants of up to $15,000.

Community Grant recipients are required to submit a grant report that includes both financial and narrative information. Recipients will be asked to report on what was accomplished with the grant and provide an accounting of how the funds were utilized. The following are the report templates:
Due April 30, 2019 – Submit via the Application Portal
- There is no template for the Narrative Report
- 2018 Community Grant Financial Report for Operating template (Excel)
- 2018 Community Grant Financial Report for Project template (Excel)
Your financial report will build on the budget you submitted. For the Operating report, leave the first two columns as submitted and update only the last column. For the Project report, leave the first column as submitted and update only the last column.

Support CFHoCo’s Programs
Our Community Grant program is made possible by donors who have established Unrestricted and Field-of-Interest Funds. Through this generous support, collectively, these funds provide CFHoCo the flexibility to use its extensive knowledge of community issues and organizations to make grants that both support programs that make our community vibrant and that are responsive to the needs of the community. Donors utilize the expertise of CFHoCo’s staff and Board of Directors to identify opportunities to make grants that will have the most impact in the community.
