The Community Foundation of Howard County, which partners with donors to reach their philanthropic goals and raises, manages and distributes funds to support Howard County nonprofits, received $92,000 from The Kahlert Foundation, a private family foundation based in Maryland.
The Community Foundation will distribute $60,000 of the donation to Howard County nonprofit organizations and use $32,000 for improvements to the foundation’s operations.
“What a remarkable donation for Howard County and our foundation,” said Beverly White-Seals, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “We’re grateful to The Kahlert Foundation for their generosity, which we’ll put to good use across the county and in our office.”
Of the $32,000 supporting the Community Foundation, $25,000 will fund new scholarship and grant-making software, which will streamline application processes. Scholarship application software will remove the paperwork burden from school guidance counselors and help students track their applications.
“The Kahlert Foundation’s generosity will benefit us for years to come, which will in turn benefit nonprofits, schools and students in Howard County. We’ll be able to do more and do it more quickly, continuing our mission of supporting worthy causes and changing lives,” White-Seals said.
The Kahlert Foundation provides grants to nonprofit charities primarily in the mid-Atlantic region in the areas of health care, education, youth programs, veterans and general well-being. The Community Foundation received $52,000 from The Kahlert Foundation in 2015 to fund education programs in Howard County.
