The Community Foundation of Howard County is a 501(c)(3) public charity.

If you have a client who wants to establish or name their existing fund at the Community Foundation as a beneficiary of their will or trust, life insurance policy or retirement plan account, the following sample language may be helpful in completing their estate planning documents or beneficiary designation forms:

“I give, devise and bequeath to The Community Foundation of Howard County, 10630 Little Patuxent Parkway, Suite 315, Columbia, Maryland 21044, (insert sum, percentage of estate, trust or account, or description of property), for the (insert name of Fund) (in honor of, in memory of) for the purpose of (describe intended use, such as endowing a particular interest as human services, arts, or a particular charitable organization.)”

Our staff will be happy to work with you and your client to establish a fund during your client’s lifetime to receive assets at their death. By working together ahead of time, we can ensure your client’s fund will carry out their charitable goals beyond their lifetime.

When your clients include a charitable bequest to the Community Foundation in their will they are eligible to become members of the Howard Legacy Society, a special group of donors that have decided to make a lasting gift that becomes their personal legacy, benefitting their community forever.
